The Brain Awareness Day was celebrated on 15th March 2014 at the ORTUS Learning Centre. This free event, part of the project Engaging Mental Health, was supported by the Maudsley Charity and King’s College London. The Brain Awareness Day initiative was in partnership with the international campaign “Brain Awareness Week” organised by the Dana Foundation.
The Brain Awareness Day, with over 100 visitors, was part of a big network with 825 events in 58 countries. Through a selection of hands-on activities, games and information about some of the research carried out at the Institute of Psychiatry people of all ages learnt about the brain structure and function and had the opportunity to talk to King’s College London researchers and students.
The event was organised by Dr Teresa Rodriguez and a group of volunteers, researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry, staff from the South London and the Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust and external collaborators.
